Fragrance + Fashion | All Dressed Up

Scent is an important thing to me. Fragrance connects to everything---memories, emotions, places, faces. For me, fragrance also ties to fashion. I usually wear my new favorite (Clinique Happy in Bloom), but when I have to dress up for something special I match my fragrance to my attire. If I'm wearing flirty clothes, I pick a floral or fruity scent. If I'm wearing something understated, I may choose a light, clean scent. And if I'm wearing something a little on the sexy side, I opt for something rich with notes of vanilla or musk.

What about you? Do you match your scent to your apparel? Here's some inspiration for merging fashion and fragrance... using scents from Victoria's Secret. (VS has some of the most amazing perfumes, lotions, and body mists.)

Utterly lovely and a dreamer at heart, the Hopeless Romantic dons a lacy dress in pale pink. Her dress may be short and sweet, but her metallic gold heels are sky high. She accessorizes with a shiny golden clutch and pretty pearl and diamond rings. On her skin she wears "Strawberries and Champagne" from the VS Secret Garden collection.

Fun and flirtatious, the Girl-Next-Door is adorable in a breezy floral sundress and girly pink gladiator sandals. She likes understated jewelry like silver heart-shaped lockets. She spritzes on "Pretty & Pure" from the VS PINK collection.

A seductress evocative of the silver screen, Le Femme Fatale opts for a little black dress that makes a big statement. Her cage heels may be powder pink in color, but they're sexy to the core. She prefers her accents in silver and sparkle. And her fragrance of choice is VS's "Noir" from the Sexy Little Things collection.

Glowing with both radiant confidence and effortless beauty, the Grecian Goddess is clad in a silky champagne-hued trapeze dress and intricate gold gladiator sandals. She selects understated golden jewelry and a gleaming clutch. She smells of "Heavenly" from the Victoria's Secret Dream Angels collection.

Which would be your combination of choice? I'm quite enamored with Le Femme Fatale, but I think the Hopeless Romantic suits me better. ;)

DIY Cat Barrier for Under $100 (See-Through, Climb-Proof, and Too-Tall-To-Jump)

ICYMI: I gave up Cotton after deciding that after trying so many things, my two adopted cats Dahlia and Cotton were just never going to get along. Long story short: I missed her. And Cotton's back. And Dahlia's not going anywhere. My heart is big enough to keep trying. And my apartment is big enough that if I need to keep them separated long term (or permanently), it can be done.
I'm going to write-up a separate post about some of the solutions I've tried, how they worked, who they worked on, and what I'll be trying next. But in this post, I wanted to share the main 'piece de resistance' of having both cats in my apartment: an un-climbable, un-jumpable, see-through barrier to separate Cotton and Dahlia.

Aria's Room | Pretty Little Liars Decor

Welcome back for LU's 2nd room in the PLL series!  Today you're getting a glimpse into my favorite room on the show... Aria's room.  Aria Montgomery is the artistic, imaginative, bookworm of the bunch.  So it's no surprise that her room has an artsy, historic, romantic eclecticism atmosphere.  Plus, it's full of books.  My two words for Aria's attic space: Vintage Eclectic.  (Those happen to be my two favorite decorating words... so brace yourself for my soon-to-come swooning.)

Pencil It In | Working the Pencil Skirt into Your Work Attire, Including 25 Examples with Do's and Don'ts

Starting this week, every Wednesday on The Lovely Side will be devoted to wardrobe, hair, and beauty content.  With summer internships right around the corner and interviews for real world jobs looming as well, I thought now would be a good time to delve into the world of office fashion.
Sarah, a reader, recently emailed me asking about how to style a pencil skirt for her "somewhat casual, somewhat professional workplace full of fashionable co-workers."  She's been lusting after pencil skirts at several stores, but been hesitant to purchase one for fear of looking bad in it and not knowing what to wear with it.
