Jesse Nabers is a painting major at Memphis College of Art and the blogger behind Just Flew the Coop. She's one of my favorite bloggers and has fabulous interior design taste. So you can imagine my excitement when she posted on Facebook the big reveal of her finished bedroom in her new apartment. With her chic sense of style and creative diy know-how, Jesse shows how easy it is to pull together a gorgeous apartment on a student budget.
The fabrics chosen for her pillows go together without being too matchy-matchy. To do this, choose patterns of similar size that incorporate the same colors. The flower print and retro print are very different in scale and they include the same greens, creams, and blue---the patterns are just different! This makes mix-and-matching easy and pleasing.
Her desk area is by far my favorite part of the room. I'm a sucker for that shabby-chic, cottage-style look, so the desk makes me swoon. The piece of glass on top provides a smooth surface to work on. And I love the contrast that is created by pairing the desk with a modern chair and shiny, industrial-inspired lamp. Cute idea: a pot next to the desk keeps magazines close at hand!
Curtains made of sheer scrim pool elegantly on the hardwood floor.
The dresser and chair were both handed down from Jesse's grandmother. The chair's seat was reupholstered in a fabric that matches the rest of the room.
Jesse didn't go out and by any of the art in her room because she wanted to use pieces she already owned or created herself in order to bring memories and personal touches into the room.
And she creatively covered the boring fan light with a fixture from Ikea.
Love, love, love the space, Jesse! I'm super jealous of your huge bedroom with its character, huge windows, and hardwood floors. Enjoy your apartment!
