I Need Your Help | What To Wear?!

Okay, so I'll admit that the above image isn't totally fitting.  In fact, I have plenty to wear.  I have a closet and two dressers full of clothes that I've acquired from clearance racks, thrift stores, years of not-wanting-to-part-with-it because it'll-come-back-around, and the occasional splurge.  My problem is that I have no idea what to wear!  I hustled over to my beloved Polyvore and the handy "Ask" section that has helped me out so many times before.  ...But, alas! Polyvore has shut down the helpful fashionista advice section.

So I'm appealing to you!  My trusty, stylish, lovely readers to advice me in this.  I have a concert Friday night.  (That I'm completely psyched about... I wish I could describe how much!)  It's an indie-pop-rock-hard-to-describe kinda thing.  Some friends and I are venturing to another city for it, attending the concert, and then going out on the town for a bit.

This is what I'm leaning toward, but I'd like many second opinions!

I'd like to wear something fun, edgy, and a little punkish.  You see, I have this black studded dress and matching studded mini skirt.  (They're very similar to the ones in the set above, but not exact.)  I haven't worn either in over a year because they're just too club-ish for any of my current life activities.  But I'd love to dress either of them down.  With both, I'd wear black tights.  With the dress: I'm thinking a slouchy, light denim shirt.  With the mini skirt: I'm thinking my medium-toned denim shirt, which looks cute both tucked in or hanging out.  Over either outfit, I'd like to wear my red leather jacket for a pop of color.  And I'm debating between greyish beige combat boots or chunkier brown boots.  (I love mixing my browns and blacks.)

So what do you think?  Is it too over-the-top?  I like the layers of the jacket and denim shirts (and probably a white v-neck underneath) because it gives me options.  It's a bitter sub-zero Iowa winter right now and I doubt that'll change by Friday night.  ...But it'll likely get very hot in the venue.  I love that this outfit just came together in my head and when I tried it on, I thought it looked pretty cute.  ...But stop me if I'm just delirious and it's totally ugly. :P

A small part of me just wants to play it cool and safe with a "less is more" kind of approach.  I have a variety of skinny jeans: turquoise, wine-hued, faux leather, gray floral, distressed denim.  I have many boots: brown riding, black riding, combat, biker.  I have v-neck tees in gray, black, white, and a few bright solids.  I have a dark denim shirt, light denim shirt, boyfriend blazer, and red leather jacket.  I could mix-and-match all of these things into several cute, concert-worthy outfits.

...But I also mix-and-match these things into everyday life outfits.  Sure, I'd be understated and comfortable.  However, I don't venture to another city's nightlife for a concert very often.  And like I said, I'd like to do something different, trendy, and a little offbeat.

What do you think?  Is the studded black + denim + red leather too much?  Should I play it cool in normal, everyday clothes?  Are you seeing a combination here that I'm not?  Do you have something else in mind?  (Trust me, there's a good chance something similar is in my closest... so don't let this selection limit your imagination.)

Leave me your insight, your suggestions, your links to Polyvore sets and Pinterest outfits!  I'm all ears and eyes. :)
