We renters don't usually the luxury of a gorgeous backsplash. And installing one ourselves would probably break the lease rules. So what can we do? Temporary wallpaper. That's what we can do. In the photo above, brightly colored removable wallpaper brightens up the backsplash. What else can we do? Fabric. Tin tiles. Even place mats. Check out the ideas below:

Last year, I helped a friend put up fabric using the cornstarch method. We put it above her upper kitchen cabinets and it turned out great. I love the idea of using it in the backsplash zone.
Tin Squares | A Pretty Cool Life
I adore the look of tin (and copper) plated ceilings, so it'd be icing on the cake to be able to do this on my backsplash. Surely with the right adhesive and lightweight enough tin, a temporary diy is possible.
Place Mats | Curbly
Place mats and thumb tacks. This backsplash diy is so cheap and easy that it's ridiculous - and ridiculously perfect for renters and dorm dwellers. (And so easy to change if you want to redecorate!)
Chalkboard | National Builder Supply
While I don't recommend painting your backsplash with chalkboard paint, chalkboard wall decals are easy to come by. A chalkboard backsplash is ideal for a kitchen with lots of room on the wall.
Vinyl Tiles | The Nic Studio
This vinyl backsplash is colorful, affordable, and super easy. You could even custom order your own design for the vinyl, like this do-it-yourselfer did.
