TV Show Halloween Inspiration

Trick-or-treat as Zooey Deschanel's quirky character Jess on New Girl.  To pull off her style, pair girly dress with a cardigan and flats... all in different but bright colors.  Don't worry so much about matching.  Accessorize with fun jewelry and don't forget her trademark glasses!

Masquerade as one of the leading ladies of Mad Men.  For all these 1960s women, you'll need a vintage or retro-inspired frock, matching pumps, and a Mid Century hairdo.  To dress up as archetype homemaker Betty, pick a pretty a-line dress with a sweet pattern or details like lace.  To be office manager Joan, go with a curve-hugging bombshell-dress... bonus points if it is satiny.  And to channel secretary Peggy, pick a prim-and-proper frock in a vintage floral print.

Need an easy costume?  Okay with leaning toward the grunge side?  Wear your most distressed pair of jeans, an old tank, flannel, and boots to pull off the Walking Dead look.

You know I can't do a tv-inspired post without including Downton Abbey.  Whether you're channeling Lady Mary, Lady Edith, or Lady Sybil... hit up a vintage or thrift store for a long sheath-style dress.  Accessorize with elbow-length gloves, vintage heels, and lots of antique-inspired jewelry like pearls, cameos, and chandelier earrings.
