I could go on and on about how much I love red lipstick, but that's a whole 'nother post! Instead, today I'm sharing one of my favorite new red lipstick finds. (Because when I find something good, I just can't help but share it!) I've been on the lookout for a lipstick that stays put. As much as I love some of my cherry and strawberry hued sticks, I hate having to reapply them when out for dinner or drinks... or between kisses!
What was on my want list for this stay-put lipstick besides long-lasting wear? 1: Rich color. Red lipstick is lovely; faded red lipstick is not. 2: Non-drying. Dry lips are also not so very lovely. 3: One step. None of that two or three steps in a tube junk. Simplicity is best. 4. Inexpensive. I tend to lose lipsticks sometimes, or end up not liking an occasional one I buy. So I don't want to spend a bunch on it, especially if it's a test round.
Luckily, I hit the jackpot when I opted to try Revlon ColorStay's new Ultimate Suede. I chose the brightest, boldest red in the bunch called "Finale."
1. Rich color? Yep! It runs true to the bold cherry hue in the tube. In the photo above, I am indeed wearing Finale. It's a bright, classic, and perfect shade of red.
2. Non-drying? This is a matte lipstick that does not dry out my lips. I love that. Because I hate applying chap stick or balm over the top of lipstick.
3. One step? You slick on the lipstick and that's it. No beforehand prep. No followup step. Putting on lipstick, plain and simple. I like that.
4. Inexpensive? The stick set me back about $8, which in the grand scheme of things in the cosmetic world qualifies as cheap. Inexpensive enough that I will buy another if I lose it... but you can bet I'm keeping my eye on this one!
Now to talk about the "staying put" power. The lipstick goes on smooth, stays slightly sticky (like tape/sticker sticky rather than goopy/glue stick, if that makes sense), then dries in a nice matte color. I haven't had any problems with getting it on my teeth---something I'm very prone to! And this stuff stays! It keeps its color through dinner. It endures through multiple pints. It even survives kisses. If I wear this lipstick out and go straight to bed without washing my makeup off (baaaad, I know!) my lips will still be stained red in the morning.
The only thing this lipstick didn't last through? A superdog. The superdog is a late night classic in my college town of Ames. It's a magical concoction of melted monterey jack cheese, bacon, potato chips, ketchup, mustard, and pineapple onto of a premium hot dog on toasted bun. It sounds like a weird combination, but it's utterly delicious. And the eating of one wiped the Finale right off of my mouth.
Aside from not standing up to the superdog, I'm head-over-heels for this lipstick. It'll be staple in my purse from here on out and I can't wait to try new colors. Maybe a hot pink or coral for spring?! :)
Questions? Leave 'em in the comments and I'll get back at ya!
