Hey lovelies! I'm blogging today with exciting news. As I believe I've mentioned before, my lease in my current apartment will be up this summer. I've been searching high and low in this expensive college town for a studio within my budget. Unfortunately, everything I found was either outrageously expensive or in the ghetto. Haha. But, I did find my next apartment! It's not a studio...
It's a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor and attic of a big late Victorian house near campus. The second floor of the house has a living room, kitchen, (big!) bathroom, bedroom, and little deck just off of the kitchen. The attic is a bedroom itself... and that's what I'll be renting! The house is big, old, renovated, and full of charm and character. I toured it today and can't wait to move in this summer! My head is just full of ideas about decorating my attic bedroom! So I decided to round up some of my favorite attic spaces for decor inspiration.
Maybe I'll incorporate lots of bright colors like in the photo above---and in my current bedroom.

This one is charming, too. So light and airy.

If I'm allowed to paint the walls, maybe I'll go with a soft grayish brown like this.
You see, I've always had a fascination with attics. I've never lived in a house with a real attic. Growing up, my family's house just had one of those attics that was more for storage than anything. You got up there by climbing through a hole in a closet ceiling, but there was no stairs... not even a ladder. A full-grown man couldn't even stand up in the space. So I always envied the big old houses with attics. There's something especially antique and romantic and charming about an attic.
It'll come with its own challenges: angled walls, really low and really high ceilings, a unique "+" like layout. But it is so adorable and right up my alley when it comes to charm and character. There's even a little wooden deck outside one of the windows---perfect for reading! It's really private and would definitely be my own space. Plus, there's lots of trees and greenery in the neighborhood. And I met my roommate and it seems like we'll get along very well. I will keep you updated!
In the meantime, have any of you ever lived in an attic? Did your house have an attic growing up? Or do attics just give you the creeps because of the movie "Flowers in the Attic"? Haha.
