Ashley's Beachy Shabby Chic Studio Apartment

Shabby chic meets the beach in Ashley's lovely little apartment. I love the old brass bed dressed up with the billowy white comforter and mix of floral patterned pillows - and the bench at the foot of the bed is a great touch. Black and white photos in ornate gold frames adorn the walls. And how cute is the surfboard in the corner?!

Short on closet space, a standalone rack puts favorite fashion items front and center.

A chalkboard decal adds a nice, balancing pop of black to the
kitchen wall - and is ideal for list-making and doodling.

The television is hung above an antique dresser painted an aged sea foam green - eclectic accessories are gathered on top, including books, a gold tray, and even a skull. And what a cute little corgi!

Ashley's kitchen is tiny, but she turned it into a functional space. Open shelving on the end of one cabinet keeps often-needed items handy - spices and sauces, plates and bowls, glassware. And in the corner, a tray corrals liquor and bar essentials.

Ornate frames (around the artwork and mirror) plus an antiqued sign give the small bathroom a vintage feel. A tray on the back of the toilet acts as pretty and practical storage for perfume bottles. And a sized-just-right  nightstand keeps Domino magazines, lotion, and a metallic waste can close at hand.

DIY Cat Barrier for Under $100 (See-Through, Climb-Proof, and Too-Tall-To-Jump)

ICYMI: I gave up Cotton after deciding that after trying so many things, my two adopted cats Dahlia and Cotton were just never going to get along. Long story short: I missed her. And Cotton's back. And Dahlia's not going anywhere. My heart is big enough to keep trying. And my apartment is big enough that if I need to keep them separated long term (or permanently), it can be done.
I'm going to write-up a separate post about some of the solutions I've tried, how they worked, who they worked on, and what I'll be trying next. But in this post, I wanted to share the main 'piece de resistance' of having both cats in my apartment: an un-climbable, un-jumpable, see-through barrier to separate Cotton and Dahlia.

Aniela, a lovely reader from Germany, sent me an email requesting advice on recreating the style of Penny's apartment on Big Bang Theory.

Blair's Room | Gossip Girl Decor

Manhattan's debutante Blair Waldorf happens to be my favorite Gossip Girl character.  Her behavior and feelings vary from snobbish to sensitive, but she always (except for a few rare occasions) looks and acts totally pulled together.  Her luxurious bedroom is fit for a queen---and is as pulled together as her preppy fashion ensembles.
