Gift Guides for the Pet Owner: Cat's Meow & Dog Days

This year, I thought it'd be fun to put together a couple gift guides for the pet owner in your life. What do you get the sister or friend that has it all – and a cat or dog? Now that I'm moved into and settling into my new place, I'm planning on adopting a cat after Christmas. So you can bet I've dropped a few cat-themed ideas into my mom's ear. (I'd love a set of pretty food dishes, nice litter box, or just a gift card to PetCo.)

So why not gift the pet owner in your life with a little something something for or inspired by their furry friend?

1) These metallic food bowls with a metal stand are gorgeous. They come in lots of colors, but I'm mad for this turquoise. 2) While this cat probably slipped out of her silky gown withing seconds of this photo being taken, there's no doubt that it's adorable and funny to see a feline in evening wear. 3) Another metallic teal bowl, but this one is anti-tip-over. 4) Cat toys. Just because. (And these ones are sparkly and color coordinated.) 5) More for decor than for the cat, I love this Egyptian-inspired cat statue. 6) What cat wouldn't have a ball with this light-up ball? 7) Cat beds should be stylish, too – like this one with its sleek, mid-century modern lines. Do they make one in my size?

1) There's just something about colored animal statues, I guess. Add a pop of color to your favorite pet owner's decor with a colorful little lookalike of their pooch. 2) Beauty meets function in this stylish, raspberry-hued harness. 3) Navy and pink stripes make for a preppy puppy collar. 4) Fetch has never been so chic (and pink) until now. 5) Again, I love these metallic bowls. The fuchsia is glamorous, isn't it? 6) Your dog lover friend can add a pop of color, pattern, and pooch to the sofa with this pillow. 7) A pretty pink bone. 8) I adore this pink dachshund-printed dish.

Which of these gifts would you love to receive for your pet – or you?!

DIY Cat Barrier for Under $100 (See-Through, Climb-Proof, and Too-Tall-To-Jump)

ICYMI: I gave up Cotton after deciding that after trying so many things, my two adopted cats Dahlia and Cotton were just never going to get along. Long story short: I missed her. And Cotton's back. And Dahlia's not going anywhere. My heart is big enough to keep trying. And my apartment is big enough that if I need to keep them separated long term (or permanently), it can be done.
I'm going to write-up a separate post about some of the solutions I've tried, how they worked, who they worked on, and what I'll be trying next. But in this post, I wanted to share the main 'piece de resistance' of having both cats in my apartment: an un-climbable, un-jumpable, see-through barrier to separate Cotton and Dahlia.

Aria's Room | Pretty Little Liars Decor

Welcome back for LU's 2nd room in the PLL series!  Today you're getting a glimpse into my favorite room on the show... Aria's room.  Aria Montgomery is the artistic, imaginative, bookworm of the bunch.  So it's no surprise that her room has an artsy, historic, romantic eclecticism atmosphere.  Plus, it's full of books.  My two words for Aria's attic space: Vintage Eclectic.  (Those happen to be my two favorite decorating words... so brace yourself for my soon-to-come swooning.)

Pencil It In | Working the Pencil Skirt into Your Work Attire, Including 25 Examples with Do's and Don'ts

Starting this week, every Wednesday on The Lovely Side will be devoted to wardrobe, hair, and beauty content.  With summer internships right around the corner and interviews for real world jobs looming as well, I thought now would be a good time to delve into the world of office fashion.
Sarah, a reader, recently emailed me asking about how to style a pencil skirt for her "somewhat casual, somewhat professional workplace full of fashionable co-workers."  She's been lusting after pencil skirts at several stores, but been hesitant to purchase one for fear of looking bad in it and not knowing what to wear with it.
