Rescuing Leftover Cuisine | Guest Post

Hello, lovelies! As the holidays approach, I want to share this extra special guest post from Monica Hunasikatti, on behalf of Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, a non-profit on a mission to save leftover food from being wasted and provide for those in need. So without further ado...

The holiday season puts everyone in a glorious mood. It’s truly a time to celebrate the joyous wonders that captivate our everyday lives. However, not everyone this holiday season will be able to cozy up in a fluffy sweater and sit down to eat at a delicious home-cooked meal with their loved ones. The United States has an incredibly high population of poverty-stricken individuals, especially for a developed nation. Many of these human beings are hungry, or are unable to know for sure when their next meal will be.

About 40% of food produced in the United States of America is wasted. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, about 870 million people are in a state of hunger.  This wasted matter adds to our methane emissions. With the amount of food we waste a year in the US, we could feed about 2 billion people. It is a bit shocking to realize the amount of food we throw away and take for granted. It would be incredibly beneficial to us, if we were to dedicate time to save food from the garbage bin, and instead give perfectly good and uncontaminated food to those who need it the most.

Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is a non-profit dedicated to doing just that. This organization is dedicated to identifying homeless shelters that need more food in order to feed those in need. RLC engages hundreds of volunteers a day to ensure that food does not go to waste. RLC partners with different restaurants and companies all over the nation to combat the issue of throwing away excess food by identifying underlying factors that create the issue, and work to make sure the food does goes to where it is needed and simultaneously helping businesses make environmentally friendly choices.

This year, I implore each and every one of you to try and reduce food waste. There are tons of ways to ensure that we don’t contribute to this overarching issue. Other than buying only what you need and eating leftovers, you can also take initiative to buy produce that “looks funny,” but is perfectly fine to eat. You could also monitor the waste you accumulate and try to use all of the materials in your kitchen before deciding to toss them.

There are numerous ways to celebrate the holiday season. Let’s make leaving hunger behind one of them.

See larger.

Thank you SO MUCH for this wonderful post! It makes me feel like crying because my husband works in the food industry and it is sickening how much food is tossed out every night. We have been trying to find food pantries to take the food but most of it is perishable and a lot of pantries will not take it. This post has totally inspired me and makes me so happy to know that there are so many others out there like me that want to give this wasted food to the less fortunate. I'm going to check with my local homeless shelters now and see if there is a non-profit like this where I live so I have others to connect with.

I believe everything said made a bunxh of sense.

But, think on this, what if you added a little information? I
am not suggesting your content isn't solid, but wnat if you added
a title to maybe grab folk's attention? I mean "Rescuing Leftover Cuisine | Guest Post" is kinda plain. You could
glance at Yahoo's front page and see how they write article headlines tto get
viewers to open the links. You might try adding a videoo or a related picture or two
to grab readers interested about what you've got to say.
Just my opinion, it could bring our website a little bit more interesting.
