I've been a Burt's Bees devotee since buying my first little tin of the minty-fresh lip balm in high school. Nowadays, you'll find everything from Burt's Bees balms to bath and body products scattered throughout my bathroom. (And I never go a day without the Radiance Day Lotion.) Mostly, the lip shimmers and lip balms have served as daily go-to products. But I've been missing something. Because, you see... I'm a lipstick girl at heart.
So my heart when pitter-patter when I glimpsed the new Burt's Bees Lipsticks in Target. And then it nearly skipped a beat when I was asked to offer up my honest review.
Burt's Bees Lipsticks come in an array of 14 lovely shades - all full coverage, satin-finish. I stood there staring at them for a good fifteen minutes because I ultimately narrowed down my selection to three. Here's how I did it:
1. I knew I wanted a nice natural shade to wear to the office or when I go with a more dramatic eye makeup look. But since my lips are naturally quite pigmented, it needed to have more depth than a simple nude. So I chose Sunset Cruise.
2. I'm a sucker for rich berry and wine shades lately. Colors that fall between dark raspberries and hot pinks look as ladylike as a classic red, while feeling a little less 40's Hollywood. I opted for Ruby Ripple, a berry red.
3. There are days when a girl simply needs to swipe on some bright red lipstick and channel that 40's Hollywood vibe. I couldn't review the new lipstick line without trying a red! So I picked Scarlet Soaked.

First, let's talk about how much I love how these feel on my lips: smooth, creamy, and lightweight. The 100% natural ingredients (moringa, raspberry seed oil, beeswax, and vitamin E) are 100% natural. Moringa oil is full of essential fatty acids, which helps soften and condition skin. And the raspberry seed oil improves elasticity.
Basically, these lipsticks provide the moisture of a balm without sliding around all slippery on your lips or feeling waxy. My lips feel soft and moisturized - not weighted down, dried out, or sticky.

I love that there's an extra click when you twist the lipstick all the way down and the tube lid snaps shut securely. There's nothing worse than when lipsticks twist themselves up and into the top of the lid or accidentally open in the abyss of clutter that is my purse. Those accidents won't happen with these tubes. Plus, the color of the lipstick is displayed on the exterior of its tube, so it's easy to find what color you're looking for without having to look at the bottom of the tube.
Ruby Ripple, pictured on me above, turned out to be my favorite. I love the rich berry hue for winter and I wore it all weekend long. I wasn't really expected a long-lasting color (I usually reach for lipstains when I need something that endures), but I was pretty impressed with how Ruby Ripple held up through my shish tawook chicken, dill rice, and falafel lunch at the market followed by a couple beers at the neighborhood brewery. ;)
This is the Scarlet Soaked. It's a really lovely red that's not too pink, not too orange... but just right! Is there a such thing as a neutral red? As with the Ruby Ripple, the Scarlet Soaked rises to the occasion of lasting through dinner and drinks. Bravo! Another thing I really love about these lipsticks is that you can really control the color. If you want just a bit of color, a single swipe will do. You can amp up the color coat by coat. Want something really dramatic? I think a layer of lip pencil underneath would look phenomenal. The beautiful, subtle luster in these is also a nice balance between matte and shimmer.
Here's the Sunset Cruise that I'll likely be wearing to work every single day. I love it. It's a warm pink with just a tinge of peach - one of those colors that's "my lip color but better." I would definitely recommend this color for the office, job interviews, or as a subtle swipe of color when you want to do a really dramatic, smokey eye.
