Infographic: Mad Men Interior Design

Remember way back when I posted a guide to decorating your apartment with Joan Holloway style? The stylish folks over at High Fashion Home were inspired by it when creating their infographic about interior design in the TV show Mad Men. I'm super flattered - and I love this infographic.

Decorate like Scarlett | A Guide to Adding 'Gone with the Wind' Elegance to Your Space

Gone with the Wind is my favorite movie. And like most of my favorite movies, my love affair with the film was sparked by its beautiful sets. I distinctly remember two things I fell head over heels for at the age of seven or eight, when I first watched this movie: First, those green velvet drapes that Scarlett turned into an elegant gown. Second, Rhett Butler. I've loved curtains and that irresistible cad ever since.

Get the Look: Mindy's Apartment | On Screen Decor: The Mindy Project

Today I'm tackling one of the most requested on screen decor inspirations: Mindy Lahiri's apartment from the show The Mindy Project. While Mindy's gorgeous brownstone apartment would probably break most of our budgets, borrowing her colorful, eclectic style doesn't have to.

Get the Look: Carrie's Apartment | On Screen Decor: Sex & the City

This is one of the most requested On Screen Decor rooms, so it's about time that I got around to posting it: Carrie's apartment from Sex & the City - the apartment she couldn't have possibly afforded as a writer who spent most of her money on clothes. I've included a decor board for both before her apartment redo, and after. In both, I focused on the bedroom space of Carrie's place.

Get the Look: Joan Holloway's Apartment | On Screen Decor: Mad Men

Within the last week or so, I started watching Mad Men. I don't know why I waited so long. Let's just say that I'm watching that show like it's going out of style. I love the advertising world business drama, personal scandals, pulled-together fashion, and of course: the mid-century modern decor. And the living space that I love the most belongs to none other than Joan Holloway.

Get the Look: Laurel Lance's Apartment | On Screen Decor: Arrow

While Felicity Smoak's apartment is airy, modern, and a tinge quirky, Laurel Lance's living space is feminine, classic, and grown-up. It's a pulled-together apartment - that is, when it's not been broken into or brawled in.

Her apartment appears to be in an older, historic building - look at the gorgeous paneling on the walls. Her wine-hued sofa adds a big splash of color, which is matched by an accent wall in the background.

Get the Look: Felicity Smoak's Apartment | On Screen Decor: Arrow

Hands down, Felicity Smoak is my favorite character on the CW's Arrow. She's smart, sweet, and funny. She has a killer fashion sense. And her awkward quirks are downright adorable. Apparently in Season 3 - I'm not actually there yet - you get a peek at Felicity's apartment (pictured below). I think the design suits our favorite IT girl perfectly: clean, modern, feminine, and a little eclectic.

Decor Inspired By the Young Ladies' Rooms in 'Call the Midwife'

My most recent Netflix binge has been Call the Midwife. There's nothing like coming home from work, settling in with a bowl of soup and glass of beer, and procrastinating my packing with a couple episodes of this British hit series. The show centers around young midwives in impoverished East London during the 1950's. Every episode is filled with lovely vintage fashion, era appropriate music, heartwarming and heartbreaking plot twists, and nods to political, social, and medical issues we're still dealing with today. I love the characters and their stories - just have a box of tissues nearby.

Downton Style, Downstairs Kitchen, Downtown Budget

Recently, The Lovely Side reader and fellow Downton Abbey fan Ashley wrote in:

"I'm obsessed with the kitchen in Downton Abbey. Yes, the downstairs kitchen where the servants cook! I recently moved into a tiny studio in the city with a small but separate kitchen. It has white cabinets, counters, and linoleum. Basically, it's a blank slate. I'd love to get the Downton look for my kitchen, but I'm on a tight budget and in a tight space. Any advice? Thank you!"

Hart of Dixie Inspired Bedroom Decor | Reader Request

All the way from Italy, Daria wrote in to The Lovely Side asking for a little inspiration in recreating Zoe's room from Hart of Dixie. While I'm slightly familiar with the show, I've never watched it. And finding photos of Zoe's space was a bit of a challenge. However, I was able to whip up an inspiration board based on the above and below photos.

Bonnie & Clyde Wedding Inspiration Board (Reader Request)

When a lovely reader dropped me a message requesting ideas and inspiration for a "Bonnie & Clyde Wedding" with a twist, I couldn't resist. I've never done weddings before! Having only created decorating and outfit inspiration boards for myself and blog readers, I thought: What a perfect excuse to merge decor and fashion together. The "twist" that I put on this Bonnie & Clyde inspired affair is some good old-fashioned rustic romance.

Want to decorate like a tv or movie character? I'm taking requests!

Decorating inspiration can come from many sources. Television shows and movies are two of my favorites. :) The TV and Film Lookalike Decor features provide that onscreen inspiration from your favorite characters. So far, I've covered:

Photobucket
New Girl: Jess & the Guys Big Bang Theory: Penny 2 Broke Girls: Max & Caroline What's Your Number?: Ally Darling Pretty Little Liars: Alison, Aria, Emily, Hanna, Spencer Gossip Girl: Serena, Blair Vampire Diaries: Elena Underworld: Selene Atonement: Cecilia & Briony

I get a lot of requests for additional lookalike tv and film spaces... via comments, email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. But it's easy for comments to get buried, emails to get lost, and social media notifications to get overlooked. I know there have been some awesome suggestions, but I just can't remember and keep track of them all.

Decor Inspired by Atonement: Cecilia & Briony

Doesn't this^ picture make you long for summertime?  Atonement is one of my all-time favorite movies.  Number one, I love Kiera Knightley in period period pieces.  Number two, I loooove the house that Cecilia and Briony live in.  And number three, the film itself is just stunning.  I started the book once, but since it's such a deep read I postponed it until I have the time to truly absorb it.  In the meantime, I got inspired to create two boards showing the decor contrasts between sisters Cecilia and Briony.  These aren't replicas of the film set.  In fact, I didn't look up any pictures of the set for reference.  These are simply my modernized interpretations of the girls' bedrooms.

Elena's Bedroom | Vampire Diaries Decor

By reader request, I'm diving into the world of Vampire Diaries to show you how to decorate like Elena.  (Surprisingly... she incorporated no garlic into her bedroom.)

Blair's Room | Gossip Girl Decor

Manhattan's debutante Blair Waldorf happens to be my favorite Gossip Girl character.  Her behavior and feelings vary from snobbish to sensitive, but she always (except for a few rare occasions) looks and acts totally pulled together.  Her luxurious bedroom is fit for a queen---and is as pulled together as her preppy fashion ensembles.

Serena's Room | Gossip Girl Decor

I'm sure many of you can join in on me with this: Gossip Girl is one of my favorite guilty pleasures.  (It's like the only show I actually tweet about while watching!)  So I was delighted when several of you lovely readers requested that I feature some GG-inspired decor boards.  Let's kick off with Serena!

Selene's Room | Underworld

The only vampire movie series I've really gotten into is Underworld.  I love Kate Beckinsale!  And since I have a hot date with my guy tonight to see Underworld: Awakening... I couldn't help but put together a decor board of what I would imagine Selene's room to be like.  Drenched in black.  Gothic furniture.  Ultra femme fatale.  I'm particularly smitten with the black chandelier, bed, and chair.  What do you think?  Would you revamp your room in this style?  (Re-vamp... haha... couldn't resist!)

Alison's Room Bonus | Pretty Little Liars Decor

Surprise! Surprise!  One last post in this series... Alison's room!

Hanna's Room | Pretty Little Liars Decor

Hanna's room is definitely the most feminine and fashion-forward of the four... which isn't a surprise considering Hanna Marin is the popular, fashionable, girly girl of the clique.  Her bedroom fuses sleek modernity with fashionable luxe with perky charm... making for a Cheerful Glam look.

Emily's Room | Pretty Little Liars Decor

Today's the day for Emily's lovely bedroom.  Emily Fields is the shy, sweet swimmer of the group.  Her room manages to find the perfect balance between vintage country and preppy chic.  At first glance, the room is light, sunny, and airy.  It's any teen girl's dream room.
