Now Open for Decorating Consulting | Send your dorm, apartment, and small space challenges my way!

It's back to campus season! Many of you are probably moving into your first (or a new) dorm or apartment and I know first-hand how tricky decorating these small spaces can be. (That's why I started this blog once upon a time five(ish) years ago!)

One of my main missions here on The Lovely Side is to help inspire you to create a lovely space - whether it's your home or your home-away-from-home, whether you're a college student or young professional.

So I'm opening up the floor (or rather, my inbox) to your design challenges. Any small space woes are welcome - from arranging furniture to choosing a color scheme to decorating with a roomie.

I will take questions on a first-come, first-serve basis -  but the more information you provide to help me out, the more likely your dedicated decor board and blog post will be chosen and published.

Here's what to do:

Send me an email at [email protected], including your name, a little bit about you, as many photos of your place as possible, a rough floor plan if possible, your design questions and challenges, some information about what colors and styles you like, and anything you'd like your space to be inspired by or based on.

I'll get in touch via email if I have questions. If you provide enough info right off the bat, I'll whip something up and send you the link when your post goes up.

I look forward to helping you all with your dorms and apartments!

Happy decorating!

DIY Cat Barrier for Under $100 (See-Through, Climb-Proof, and Too-Tall-To-Jump)

ICYMI: I gave up Cotton after deciding that after trying so many things, my two adopted cats Dahlia and Cotton were just never going to get along. Long story short: I missed her. And Cotton's back. And Dahlia's not going anywhere. My heart is big enough to keep trying. And my apartment is big enough that if I need to keep them separated long term (or permanently), it can be done.
I'm going to write-up a separate post about some of the solutions I've tried, how they worked, who they worked on, and what I'll be trying next. But in this post, I wanted to share the main 'piece de resistance' of having both cats in my apartment: an un-climbable, un-jumpable, see-through barrier to separate Cotton and Dahlia.

Penny's Apartment | Big Bang Theory

Aniela, a lovely reader from Germany, sent me an email requesting advice on recreating the style of Penny's apartment on Big Bang Theory.

Blair's Room | Gossip Girl Decor

Manhattan's debutante Blair Waldorf happens to be my favorite Gossip Girl character.  Her behavior and feelings vary from snobbish to sensitive, but she always (except for a few rare occasions) looks and acts totally pulled together.  Her luxurious bedroom is fit for a queen---and is as pulled together as her preppy fashion ensembles.
