My Attic: "Before" Photos

Yesterday, on my day off I decided to take a few things over to my new place.  I don't have to be out of my current place for a while, or fully moved into the new place for a while either... so it's nice having a relaxed time period to move stuff in little by little.  (Doesn't happen very often!)  While I was there, I also decided to do something I always forget to do... snap "before" shots!

This is the stairwell leading up to my room.  The door is at the bottom of the stairwell, so it makes the stairs an integral part of the room.  Since this is the first part of my room you see, I'll be decorating it as well to make sure it makes a lovely first impression.  ;)

This is the west end of my room, which includes the closet.  The closet has great built-in shelving---perfect for shoes or cute baskets.  It also has a cupboard overhead---perfect for storing seasonal stuff.  The closet doesn't have doors, so I'll have to work extra hard to keep it neat and tidy.  I'm contemplating hanging curtains across the opening... or putting some cool, antiqued shutters on each side.  On the long wall next to the closet, I plan on putting my dressers, shelves with perfume/jewelry/etc, and a small stand with my tv.

Here's one of my window nooks.  These nooks are nice and big.  I plan to put a desk in this one and creating a cozy little writing/blogging space.  Outside the window is a small deck with a fire escape.  I might put a cute cushion out there in case I ever get the notion to read or write outside.  I'd also like to find an old chandelier, spray paint it a fun color, and hang it in the highest point of the nook ceiling.  I think that would add a fun splash of color and really wake up the ceiling.  

On the other side of my room is a huge built-in desk... we're talking over 6 feet long!  It's got cupboards and drawers, which is a lifesaver.  You can bet this baby is going to be full of craft supplies.  To the right is my other window nook.  And this is the one I plan on putting my bed in.  Again, I'd like another brightly-colored chandelier to hang overhead.  I think I'm going to hang some sheer white curtains.

Here's that craft desk!  I'm not crazy about the dark finish, wood counter top, and hardware... but I see loads of potential here.  Some options I'm considering:  1) Having a piece of MDF cut to fit the desk top, covering it in wallpaper, sealing it with clear coat for a protective finish.  2) Getting a piece of glass to fit the desk top, putting fabric or wallpaper underneath. I've got some ideas for temporarily sprucing up the cabinets and hardware, too. I also plan on adding more shelves to the shelving unit that separates the desk from the stairwell.

This is what I look like when coming up with crazy decorating ideas.  See that look in my eyes?  That's the look of DIY-inspired madness.  And yea, you should be worried. :P
