It's been a while since I rounded up some of my favorite beauty products. And with summer coming to an end and the tinge of crisp fall creeping into the air... what better time than now? I'm tossing aside summer's shimmery bronzes, pretty pink lip glosses, and pearly pale shadows. Instead, I'm reaching for deeper, darker, hues. Here's my stash of beauty picks for early fall---and all under $10 each! (Because I like to keep it budget-happy here on the blog.) :)
Physician's Formula Eye Shadow Palettes (Nude, Smoky)
I've been trying to minimize the random eye shadows floating around my makeup bag. These shimmery palette strips are the answer to my downsizing prayers, offering a range of colors in one convenient little pack. The nude palette is my daily go-to with its shades of ivory, beige, soft gray, and warm charcoal. Later on when I'm feeling a little more dramatic, the smoky palette has helped me master the smoky eye. Plus, it includes shades of bluish purple that really make green eyes pop.
Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara (Black)
Mascara is my Number 1 Makeup Must-Have. I will go out without foundation, without blush, without eye shadow... but you will never, ever catch me without mascara. I must first confess that I've been a devoted fan of Cover Girl Lash Blast since the stuff came out, so I was quite skeptical and kinda appalled at first sight of Rimmel's lookalike fat orange tube. Needless to say, I eventually caved and gave it a try. So. Glad. I. Did. I've been converted. Lash Blast is now reserved for days when I want my lashes to look really super natural. (Which is never.) And Scandal Eyes is now the most important weapon in my arsenal. It goes on without clumping. It doesn't flake. It makes my lashes long, lovely, and thick. What more could a girl want? (This stuff even held up through my weeping at my cousin's wedding!)
Cover Girl Cheekers (Soft Sable)
I'm not a big fan of blush. Mostly because I have a natural pink flush to my face that doesn't require much rouging before it looks overdone. But I like a little swipe of some nice shimmery color and these cheap little cheekers do just the trick. As summer fades into fall, this shade has just enough rosy pink and toasty golden coral. It's such a flattering shade that I think would look a little different on each skin tone. I adore how it blends into my fair complexion and compliments my auburn hair.
Revlon Lip Butter (Candy Apple)
To know me is to know that I do love a good red lipstick. It took me a few years of discovering what shade really looks good on me. (My fair skin demands the orangey undertones as opposed to anything berry-ish.) I knew right away that this bright red shade would be perfect, but what I really must rave about is the lipstick itself. It sticks true to its name and slides on soooo buttery. It is definitely a more balm-like lipstick, but unlike some balmy sticks... it isn't too slick and it really deposits a lot of color without bleeding or sliding around on the lips. I am never without this trusty little red lipstick nowadays.
L'Oreal Color Riche Balm (Caring Coral)
Some days (namely the dramatic smoky eye eyes) I need to go a little light on the lipstick. Thank goodness I discovered this balm lipstick! Though its name invokes a coral hue, this baby definitely slides on with some nice nude-but-slightly-corally color. It's shiny, feels good and lightweight on lips, and super pretty. The color is perfect for daily wear and really moisturizes the lips, too.
Milani Glitzy Glamour Gloss (All About Me)
I'd been eyeing this lip gloss every time I passed it in the makeup aisle at Target. The photo really doesn't do the color justice. Rich. Rosy. Rusty. And very intriguing. I eventually convinced myself that even the tube, the color would surely compliment auburn hair. So I bought a tube and tried it on. I was right! It's a unique corally, rusty, rosy color. It's really shiny and tastes/smells delicious. I can go heavy with it for a more dramatic, almost-red-lipstick look. Or just a bit of a wipe leaves a nice lighter shade suitable for daily wear.
Suave Dry Shampoo
I had to include this in my fall must-haves because I'm a dry shampoo lover. When I leave my hair wavy, it's fine and stays really healthy. But sometimes I wanna straighten it. Which takes like forty-five minutes to an hour and inevitably takes a toll on my hair. Plus, if I wash my hair everyday (or even every other day) it gets reeeeally dry and really damaged pretty quick. Any little help in skipping washes is greatly appreciated. I'm a fan of the classic Psssst! brand of dry shampoo, but it's becoming more difficult to find as dry shampoo becomes more mainstream. The Tresemme brand is just awful. It doesn't smell very good and it left a lot of white powdery deposit. I was a little hesitant about buying the Suave brand, but it was cheap so I gave it the good ol' college try. I'm pretty impressed. It smells really good (like some kind of lotion I used to use when I was in junior high, haha!) and it works well, too. It doesn't leave white streaks in my hair at all, but it freshens it up perfectly between washes and lets my strands stay straight for a while more.
Olay Silk Whimsy Body Wash (Rose Extract and Almond Oil)
This makes the list because it smells sooooooooooo good. Oh my goodness. Seriously. So good. I was sniffing out the body washes one day and when I came upon this pretty pink bottle, I nearly swooned right then and there. I can't even describe it. But who knew that rose and almond oil were such a delightful olfactory pairing?!
